Guide: how to create your pet's growth album

What this tool does

How my pet grew is a monthly photo journal. Each month you save a photo of your dog, cat or bird and the tool arranges them on a timeline. Once you have several, you can create a collage or video showing how it has changed since it came home. It's a lovely keepsake and also a useful way to follow its development.

How it works

Create your pet's profile and upload a photo for each month. You can add a note, like its weight or something special that happened that month. Photos are saved only on your device. Whenever you like, generate the collage or video and download it to keep or share.

Tips for photos you can compare

The magic of this kind of album is seeing the change, and that shows best when the photos are similar:

  • Same place: for example, always on its bed or by the same door.
  • Same reference object: a toy, a chair or a stuffed animal in every shot to see how it grows by comparison.
  • Same time and light: natural morning light is usually the nicest.
  • At its level: crouch down to take the photo at its eye level.
  • A fixed date: its birthday or homecoming day, every month. Set a reminder.

More than a keepsake

Seeing the photos in order helps you notice changes that go unnoticed day to day: weight gain or loss, changes in coat or feathers, or how it ages. If you notice something odd, compare with the ideal weight tool and mention it to your vet.

For puppies and kittens, the first year is the most spectacular. Pair the album with puppy school and note what it learned each month. To know its life stage in each photo, use the human age calculator.

Ideas for the collage or video

Add a short note each month, like its weight, its first trip to the beach or the day it learned to sit. By the end of the year you'll have a little story of its life. The video is perfect to share on its birthday or adoption anniversary, and the collage looks great printed and framed. If you have several pets, create a profile for each and compare how they grew side by side.
