Guide: sound game to see how your pet reacts

What this tool does

The sound game is a soundboard of noises that tend to catch the attention of dogs, cats and birds: doorbells, meows, barks, birds, squeaky toys and more. Tap a button, watch your pet's reaction and record the moment with the camera to keep or share on social media.

How it works

Choose a sound and the tool plays it through your phone or computer speaker. To record, turn on the camera and the tool captures video while the buttons play. The camera and microphone are used only while the tool is open, and videos are saved on your device.

Why they react the way they do

Dogs and cats hear higher frequencies than people, so sounds that seem quiet to you can be very interesting to them. Tilting the head, moving the ears, searching for the source or running to the door are normal reactions of curiosity.

  • Many dogs react to the doorbell because they link it with visitors.
  • Cats often pay attention to high-pitched sounds like birds or mice, which trigger their hunting instinct.
  • Birds sometimes answer by singing or imitating the sound.

How to play responsibly

The goal is to have fun without stressing your pet:

  • Low or medium volume. Never at full blast near its ears.
  • Short sessions. A few minutes is enough.
  • Watch its body. If it hides, trembles, pins its ears back or raises its fur, stop the game. Learn these signs in What is my pet telling me?
  • Avoid sounds that scare it, like thunder or firecrackers, unless you're working on desensitization with a professional.
  • End with a treat or some normal play.

For more fun, try the pet translator or, if you have a cat, the cat game.

Record and share thoughtfully

For a good video, film in good light, with the phone at your pet's eye level and not too close. If you share the video, think of your pet: avoid posting moments where it looks scared. Curious, happy reactions are the ones people enjoy most and the ones that show your pet at its best. And remember: the best reaction always comes from a calm, curious pet.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my dog react?

Some dogs simply aren't interested, especially if they know the sound comes from the phone. That's normal.

Can it get scared?

Yes, some animals are sensitive. Start at a low volume and watch its reaction.

Do I need to allow the camera?

Only if you want to record. The sounds work without it.

Does it work on a computer?

Yes. You can use the sounds and, if it has a camera, record too.
