Guide: how to keep your pet's vaccine record

What this tool does

The digital vaccine record lets you log vaccines, deworming and flea treatments for all your pets in one place. It shows when the next dose is due so you never miss a date, and it's always on your phone when you go to the vet.

How it works

Create a profile for each pet and add each vaccine or treatment with its date. The tool calculates the next booster date and shows what's up to date, what's due soon and what's overdue. Data is saved only on your device, with no account needed.

The core vaccines

Vaccines protect your pet from serious diseases and, in the case of rabies, protect your family too. Your vet sets the exact schedule based on age, lifestyle and local laws, but in general:

  • Dogs: core vaccines cover distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis (adenovirus) and rabies. Depending on where you live, others may be recommended, like leptospirosis, kennel cough or Lyme disease.
  • Cats: the feline combo vaccine protects against panleukopenia, herpesvirus and calicivirus. Rabies is required in many places. Feline leukemia is recommended mainly for cats that go outdoors.
  • Puppies and kittens: get a series of doses every 3 to 4 weeks from 6 to 8 weeks of age until 16 weeks, plus a booster at one year.
  • Adults: boosters every one to three years, depending on the vaccine.

Pet birds usually don't need vaccines, but they do need a yearly checkup with an avian vet.

Don't forget parasites

Deworming and protection against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes matter as much as vaccines. Some products are given monthly and others every three months. Log them in the record so you always know when they're due. For medicines with several doses a day, use the medication schedule.

If you plan to cross borders or fly with your pet, an up-to-date record is essential. Check the destination's requirements well in advance.

Before every vet visit

Open the record and see which vaccines or treatments are coming due. That way one appointment can cover everything and save time and money. Also note any changes you've seen in appetite, weight or energy: those details help your vet a lot. Bring the record on your phone to every appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What if I missed a vaccine date?

Talk to your vet. Sometimes giving it as soon as possible is enough; other times the series must be repeated.

Does my indoor cat need vaccines?

Yes, at least the core ones. Viruses can come in on your clothes or shoes.

When can a puppy go for walks?

Ask your vet. Generally after finishing the vaccine series, although careful socialization before that is recommended.

Is my data stored online?

No. It's saved only in your device's browser.
